When I was planning my UK trip, I really wanted to visit a beach town, specifically Brighton. I watched lots of videos of Brighton and wanted to visit the shore and walk around downtown. It seemed like there were lots of cute cafes, little boutiques and colorful sheds around the shore.
We planned to go to Brighton with our friends, but the plan was changed. When we looked up train tickets, it said it would take about 2 hours to get to Brighton. So we decided to go to Hastings instead. I think going to Hastings was a great decision. It was less busy than Brighton, and the views along the shore were beautiful. It felt like I was in a British tv show because of a cliff by the sea.
How long does it take to Hastings from Royal Tunbridge Wells?
We took a train from Royal Tunbridge Wells station, and it took about 50 minutes. If you take a faster train, it will take about 37 minutes.
From Hastings station to the beach
From the train station to the beach, we walked through downtown. There were lots of big stores and pubs in the downtown. I honestly was really surprised because I didn’t expect Hastings to be a big city. I thought it would be a tiny little beach town. This doesn’t necessarily mean bad. We stopped by a few stores, bought some flip-flops (we forgot to bring them), and just looked around.
When we got close to the beach, we stopped by a pub to drink. It was hot and sunny. It was such great weather for going to the beach or just sitting outside at a pub. I was really glad we were able to do both.
Hastings beach shore was really wide and all pebbles. It was a little bit hard to walk around, but my feet didn’t get dirty at all! Haha, if it were a sand beach and my feet were wet… I don’t want to even imagine it. We finally found the spot at the beach and went to the water. Even though the weather was hot, the water was freezing cold. I only went inside for knee-high deep.
Since we were in the UK, we had to get fish and chips. So, we got fish and chips. Our friends also recommended getting battered sausage and chips. It was pretty good. My husband and I have been to the UK before, but it was our first time even hearing of it. We were so glad that we tried it. I think I will get it again.
At the end of the day, the weather got darker and chillier, and it started sprinkling. However, we were still happy because we already spent a wonderful sunny day at the beach.
Hastings was not the beach I expected to go to, but I am glad we went there. It was such a nice, peaceful seaside town. If I could come back here, I would spend 2-3 days.
