Is Royal Tunbridge Wells worth a visit? The answer is definitely YES.
In August, my husband and I went on a vacation to the UK. We stayed mainly in Scotland, but visited my husband’s friends in Royal Tunbridge Wells. We had been to London. However, we still decided to meet friends in London to see Big Ben and head to Royal Tunbridge Wells.
How long does it take from London to Royal Tunbridge Wells?
We took a train from London Bridge station to Royal Tunbridge Wells. It took about 55 minutes. However, it could take less than 55 minutes or longer, depending on which train you take.
From the train station to downtown

From the train station to downtown is really close. You can walk to the High Street and it takes about 5 minutes. On the high street, there are lots of cafes from big franchises to small local ones. Of course, you can sit outside. This is one of the things that I really like about in Europe. Sitting outside is always fun. You can feel the nice breeze and just have fun watching people. There are also lots of home stores and small, unique boutiques.
Where to eat?
I tried 2 cafes and 1 Indian restaurant, which were our friends’ recommendations. They have been living in the town their entire lives! It means… they are the best restaurants in town.
- The Lodge Coffee House, Kitchen & Bar

I had a full English breakfast and black coffee. It was really delicious. As you can see in the picture, the hash browns were very crispy, and the scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked.
- The Cake Shed

The Cake Shed is located on The Pantiles, which is a historic Georgian colonnaded walkway. There are lots of shops and restaurants. If you want some tea with great selection of cakes, don’t hesitate to go to this place. Of course, they also have a big selection of teas as well. It seems like the tables fill up pretty quickly. I recommend making a reservation.
- Bengal Brasserie
This place was our friends’ favorite Indian restaurant. They have lots of different kinds of Indian dishes. Vindaloo was really spicy compared to the one that I had tried in Germany and in the U.S. Other than that, all the dishes were really great.
Anything to see?
My husband and I did not really want to do anything special. We just wanted to be like any local. So, we mostly walked around the town and went in whatever stores we liked. It was really fun just looking at different things. Then, we ended up going to Wellington Rocks, which is located in Tunbridge Wells park. The park was very family and dog friendly. Kids were climbing the rocks and having fun. We also climbed and just relaxed a bit.

If you travel to London and have an extra day, I highly recommend to visit Royal Tunbridge Wells!
Until next time,
