How to spend 3 days in Edinburgh during the August Fringe Festival month

Posted on March 24, 2026March 24, 2026 by Jojo

After having a wonderful few days in Royal Tunbridge Wells, we started our journey to Edinburgh, Scotland. Our initial UK trip plan was to spend all 10 days in Scotland. However, we changed our plans to meet the friends. I am glad we spent our time in new cities in England.

– How to get there

There were a few ways to get to Edinburgh.- Car, bus, flight, and train. We decided to take a train from Royal Tunbridge Wells to Edinburgh. We had to take 2 trains: Royal Tunbridge Wells to London Bridge, and London King’s Cross to Edinburgh. We took the subway from London Bridge to London King’s Cross, and it was a pretty easy route.

Royal Tunbridge Wells Station- London Bridge Station: Southeastern train, 43minutes
London King’s Cross Station- Edinburgh Station: Lumo, 4hr 23minutes

Tip: Please get train tickets from London King’s Cross station to Edinburgh station ahead of time to reserve seats. I didn’t have assigned seats and thought I could sit anywhere, like Southeastern trains. However, I bought tickets only a day prior, so they gave me non-assigned seat tickets (you can sit in any vacant seat for your class of travel). I personally do not recommend it because I had to move around seats a few times. Luckily, the train conductor found us seats. I heard trains to Edinburgh are usually busy/full to Birmingham.

– Where to stay

We stayed at A&O hostel in the city center. It was a perfect location because we were able to walk everywhere. It took 5 minutes to old town and mostly 10-15 minutes to Edinburgh Castle area. We booked a 4 bed ensuite with a friend. We wanted to share a room with a friend because it was more fun. Personally, I don’t mind staying at a hostel as long as there is a bathroom inside of the room because it is cheaper most of the time. Also, it is always a great option when you travel with a friend.
