Do you live in Central Texas and want to plant something in October? If the answer is yes, you are in the right place.
I was not really into gardening in the past. However, I have thought about it for a while and finally decided to start. Luckily, I have a good-sized backyard, and currently have three raised garden beds. They actually are my husband’s, but I decided to take one of them.
In central Texas, it is still hot in October. Compared to August or September, it is way cooler, but the temperature goes up to 90°F sometimes. It slowly goes down towards the end of the month. It is pretty cool in the morning.
If you want to plant some fall crops like me, plant these plants in October.
Root vegetables- Garlic, Radish, Carrot
Brassicas- Broccoli, Kale, Cauliflower, Cabbage
Since I have decided to use one of the raised beds, I chose to plant broccoli. It is one of my favorite vegetables, and it seems easy to grow them. Also, why not plant what you like and eat often? I think I will feel very accomplished when I actually harvest and eat them.
Let’s plant broccoli!
First, I dug 2 pot-sized holes for 2 broccoli plants. Dig a few inches and check if the whole pot with a plant can fit. If they fit, you are ready to plant them.

Before I planted, I sprinkled some fertilizer to help with growth. I really want some big broccoli.

Then, I planted both broccoli and covered the top with soil around them.

Voila! I watered them, and now they are ready to grow!

Little update on day 27..
Both broccoli are still growing well and strong. Compare the pictures above and below!

Until next time,
